A .36 caliber pistol from the Civil War, a piece prized by Navy Arms Co. founder and noted firearms enthusiast Valmore Forgett Jr., was among 40 firearms in his collection stolen in 1982. Although Forgett died four years ago, the Griswold and Gunnison Confederate pistol, No. 1550, lives on. A New Jersey man found the gun while going through his deceased father’s belongings, reports The Star-Ledger. FBI agents are making arrangements for the return of the gun, which is still in excellent shape. “It’s just a shame he [Forgett] wasn’t alive to know one of those guns was found,” commented Woodcliff Lake, N.J., detective Matt Miller, who frequently discussed the theft with Forgett. “This was his passion.”
